Freesat has secured exclusive HD coverage of the prestigious BET Awards 2009 to screen in high definition.
The event, scheduled for this Sunday (June 28), will be hosted by Oscar winner Jamie Foxx and feature performances from Hollywood A-listers Beyonce Knowles, Jay-Z and Kanye West.
“Being able to broadcast this year’s BET Awards exclusively on Freesat in HD is a real coup and we hope Freesat viewers will really enjoy watching some of the world’s biggest entertainers like Beyonce and Jay Z with amazing HD picture and sound quality,” Freesat MD Emma Scott commented in a statement.
However, the temporary channel and EPG slot underlines the general absence of high definition content within Freesat’s 140 channels. HD has been a key plank of the free-to-air platform’s marketing strategy, but to date the only permanent HD channels are BBC HD and ITV HD, the latter being only part time.
