ZON TV Cabo has opted for Jungo middleware for its recently launched DOCSIS 3.0 service. The middleware from the NDS-owned company will be used in the Portuguese cablenet’s home and business gateways.
The hardware agnostic technology is designed to ensure greater bandwidth capabilities and a broader array of services. ZON has selected Jungo’s OpenRG and OpenSMB DOCSIS 3.0 gateway middleware for its new ZON Net Wideband and ZON Empresas home and small office gateways. It has also picked up the recently released SCR (Support Cost Reduction) offering for cable operators and the JRMS (Jungo Remote Management System).
“We were seeking to provide our customers with DOCSIS 3.0 gateways with wireless and voice capabilities that deliver the highest possible value while minimising our capital expenditure. We realised early on that hardware and software do not need to come from the same vendor and, in fact, that the separation of the two is a great way to enable true flexibility now and in the future,” said Luis Lopes, executive director of ZON Multimedia.
The subscriber package offers 802.11n wireless, IP telephony, secure high-speed web access, print sharing, file sharing and UpNP AV media sharing without the need for additional devices.
