The Croatian telco operator T-Hrvatski Telekom (T-HT) has presented an ambitious plan for the expansion of broadband internet access using fibre optic technology (FTTH/FTTB).
The Fiberland program, presented at the WinDays in Opatija, foresees that by the end of 2009 around 50.000 users would be connected to the optical network.
Currently this number is limited to 200 test users in Croatia’s four biggest cities.
The optical infrastructure will enable faster and more reliable internet access, as well as the possibility of offering higher quality VoIP and IPTV services.
Currently, T-HT’s broadband service MAXadsl has over 470.000 subscribers, but the operator’s goal is to create the technical conditions to provide broadband internet access to one million users by the end of this year.
In order to achieve this ambitious goal, the operator is investing more than HRK1 billion (€135.2 million) in the fixed network.
