Apple has released an upgrade of its iTunes software, adding support for renting HD movies previously only available to Apple TV.
The upgrade is available for both Mac and PC, but so far HD movies are only for rent in the US. About 1,200 titles are now available in HD, with rentals at $4.99 for new releases and $4.99 for library titles in HD.
Apple is also expanding its SD movie catalogue. Just recently, almost 300 titles have been added to the iTunes store for rent. The majority of these new additions are library titles, which cost $2.99 per rental. New releases in SD cost $3.99.
In total, the iTunes store offers about 5,000 titles.
