The US video portal Hulu showed spectacular growth in viewing in February, attracting more traffic despite the fact that overall online video viewing during the month was down 12%. Hulu now ranks at number 4.
According to the February 2009 data from the comScore Video Metrix service, US internet users viewed 13.1 billion online videos during February, representing a decline of 12% on January due mainly to the month having three fewer days.
In February, Google Sites continue to rank as the top US video property with 5.3 billion videos viewed, YouTube.com accounting for more than 99% of the total. The site represents 41% of online videos viewed and just under 100 million unique viewers.
Fox Interactive Media ranked second with 463 million videos (3.5%), followed by Yahoo! Sites with 353 million (2.7%), Hulu with 333 million (2.5%) and Microsoft Sites with 259 million (2.0%). Hulu climbed two positions in the ranking to number 4, after experiencing a 33% jump in video views.
