Copyright fees are set to rise in Romania, leading to an increase of 10% in cable subscription fees.
According to ZF, the national cable association (ACC) negotiates with the collection societies every three years, and in the period 2005-2008 cable operators paid a combined total of €600,000 a month in copyright and related fees, equivalent to 2% of their total revenues.
The ACC says that the societies would like to see this figure increase to 12%, leading to a 10% rise in cable subscription fees.
It adds that such an increase in copyright fees would run counter to European law.
