TELKODER, the Turkish Telecommunications Operators Association, has called from the privatisation of the country’s cable infrastructure.
Quoted by Zeman, its chairman Ysef Ata Ariak said that the association had provided the government with a blueprint for such a move, which could be undertaken along similar lines to that of Telsim, now known as Vodafone Turkey, undertaken by the Savings Deposit Insurance Fund (TMSF).
He added that the cable infrastructure, which is controlled by Turksat, has the potential to deliver ADSL and telephony to 2.5 million homes in Turkey.
Broadband internet penetration in the country currently stands at only around 5%.
