The new satellite-delivered TV platform, launched by Orange to complement its ADSL service, achieved 201,000 subscribers in its first six months of operation. The Eutelsat-delivered satcaster commenced marketing for the product on July 3.
As of December 31, 2008, the combined subscriber total for ADSL and satellite in the French domestic market stood at 1,909,000, an increase from 1,603,000 in September 2008, and 1,149,000 one year earlier.
When Orange’s international interests are taken into account the operator had 2.065 million digital TV subscribers, a quarterly increase of 319,000, largely attributable to the French market.
The Orange Sport channel, launched on August 9, 2008 and the Orange Cinema Series channels launched
on November 13, 2008 represented 130,000 subscribers at December 31, 2008.
Video on Demand (VOD) downloads more than doubled, with 12.1 million downloads in 2008 compared
with 5.1 million in 2007.
