Nagravision and Mediaset have agreed to extend the five year old contract to supply conditional access for the broadcaster’s Italian pay DTT product.
The renewal follows the announcement that Nagravision would also supply the CA for the Mediaset-RAI satellite project TiVu.
Mediaset Premium uses Nagravision’s flexible CAS solution that combines a mix of rechargeable smart cards with monthly subscription services. The business currently has over 2.7 million active users that between them delivered €400 million in revenue in 2008.
“Nagravision has been a valuable partner since 2004. They have helped us to grow our Pay TV business with a clever mix of technology know-how and market experience,” said Franco Ricci Managing Director at Mediaset’s RTI. “As we continue to offer new services, we are confident that Nagravision’s solution will exceed our expectations and provide us with ever more ways to satisfy our customers’ demands.”
Mediaset Premium is currently moving from a pure impulse pay-per-view (IPPV) model to one that combines both IPPV and a regular subscription plan. A new €24 monthly subscription includes a full package of kids programmes, series and live football.
