Mobile operator 3 Austria has said it now has 90,000 regular users of its hybrid mobile TV service, using both the cellular network and the national DVB-H transmitter network.
“Austria is definitely a pioneer in mobile TV in Europe,” according to 3 CEO Berthold Thoma. “If only countries such as France, Germany and Great Britain would adopt DVB-H technology, there would be more devices that support DVB-H support.”
Mobile TV was launched in Austria in June 2008. Each of the mobile operators has access to the DVB-H network for reselling. In addition, 3 has its own bouquet of channels via its UMTS network.
