UPC Nederland has reported record numbers of users for its VOD service, with almost 34 million streams requested in 2008.
The growth in usage was spectacular: during the first half of the year, 13.8 million streams were requested, and in the second half the number rose to 21 million.
During the first months of 2008, some 40% of all UPC digital subscribers used the VOD service, the percentage growing to over 50% in the second half of the year.
The most popular requests included the movies Moordwijven, I Am Legend and Ratatouille. Also popular were the catagories ‘youth’ (with Bob the Builder, Ernst, Bobbie en de Rest) and ‘TV Series’ (including Desperate Housewives, Grey’s Anatomy and Criminal Minds) the most watched.
At the end of 2008, UPC On Demand offered some 430 movies and 765 hours (1,300 episodes) of TV programmes and series. In addition, UPC also offered 10 days worth of programming from the Dutch public broadcasters in the section Programma Gemist.
UPC does not release figures of the usage of premium movie titles and the requests that are included in the subscription services.
