Disney Channel maintained its international lead in 2008, ranking as the number one kids channel in 17 countries/territories, according to data released by Disney Channels Worldwide.
“With these results, we continue to build on the momentum we’ve created in the last few years and keep raising the bar in terms of growth,” said Rich Ross, president, Disney Channels Worldwide in a statement. “While distribution is important, content is critical and, through localizing global content, we have provided our viewers, no matter where they live, a unique experience that reflects their culture and deepens their connection to Disney.”
In the UK Disney Channel was the most watched kids station for the second consecutive year, buoyed by the 2.4 million viewers that tuned into Camp Rock. Playhouse Disney became the fastest growing kids channel in the UK. In Q3 2008, 3.8 million viewers joined the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse to do the Hot Dog Dance.
Disney Channel Spain used its position on the DTT network to become market leader across all thematic channels after just six months on the air. Half of all Spanish kids aged 4-12 tune in each month. Disney Channel Italia, another DTT launch grew to become the No.1 kids channel on the platform.
