Czech adult channel fined

PK 62, the operator of the Czech adult channel Leo TV, has been fined CZK50,000 (€1,793) by the country’s Radio and TV Council (RRTV).

ANT anticipates reduced losses

UK launch for Sci Fi HD

NBC Universal Global Networks will tonight (January 26) launch a UK version of Sci Fi Channel in HD. Sci Fi HD has been testing for the past month and will take channel 214 on the Sky EPG, giving it some prominence within the HD section of the guide.

IPTV Association for Italy

Fastweb, Telecom Italia and Wind have founded the Associazione Italiana degli operatori IPTV (Italian Association of IPTV Providers) in order “to foster the use of IPTV in Italy and make an active contribution to the switch-off of analogue TV and the transition to digital technology by the end of 2012.”

Spanish judge orders open decoder market

A judge of the Provincial Court of Madrid (Audiencia Provincial de Madrid) has ruled that the pay-TV operator Sogecable and its subsidiary Digital+ have to open up the market for decoders of the service.

CCTV-9 joins Astra at 19.2 degrees

The international English language channel CCTV-9 from China Central Television is set to start broadcasts on Astra at 19.2 degrees East. The French language channel CCTV-F is already available from this position.

T-Entertain reaches half a million

German IPTV provider T-Entertain from Deutsche Telekom’s T Home division has reached half a million subscribers on December 31, 2008, according to fixed networks CEO Timotheus Höttges in the Focus weekly.

Ziggo announces VOD services

Ziggo, the largest cable operator in The Netherlands with 3.2 million connected homes, has unveiled the names of its new VOD services. Although they are only available on the former Casema nets at present, the operator plans to roll them out across its entire network in the coming months.
