The right to broadcast the Euro 2012 football championships is being contested in Poland by TVP and Polsat.
Wirtualne Media reports that the two were the only stations in the country to submit bids in a tender process organised by UEFA that closed yesterday (January 20).
In its original announcement of the process in December, UEFA said that Europe would be split into various major territories for which it would invite media companies, including broadcasters and agencies, to submit offers for the distribution and exploitation of Euro 2012 media rights.
These would be marketed on a platform-neutral basis to reflect media technology convergence and allow for distribution across multiple platforms.
The value of the media rights for Euro 2012, which will be co-hosted by Poland and Ukraine, could be as much as €1 billion.
