Poland ended 2008 with more DTH than cable subscribers for the first time ever.
According to Wirtualne Media, there were a total of 4.7 million subscribers to satellite-delivered services as the end of December, or 40.7% more than a year earlier.
The commonly accepted figure for the number of cable homes in the country is 4.5 million.
The landmark, which was expected to be reached sometime this year, in fact came at the end of last year, following publication of subscriber figures for Cyfrowy Polsat and Cyfra+, the two leading platforms.
Both, along with their rivals n and TNK, enjoyed a surge in take-up in the last quarter, ending the year with 2.73 million (Cyfrowy Polsat) and 1.38 million (Cyfra+) subscribers.
