GlobeCast is to handle fibre connectivity, transport facilities and satellite capacity for the Italian public broadcast RAI.
The satellite services company has signed a three-year deal with RAI’s transmission arm Rai Way to deliver signals to its DTT network. Already GlobeCast is sending multiple feeds from Rai Way’s headquarters in Rome via fibre to Globecast’s technical operations centre in Paris for uplink to the Eutelsat Atlantic Bird at five degrees West. Backup is provided through a second teleport in Madrid.
By mid 2009, GlobeCast will install and manage an uplink station at Rai Way’s premises in Rome where the signal will be uplinked directly to GlobeCast’s capacity on Atlantic Bird 3.
