The incumbent Bulgarian telco BTC has agreed to sell its broadcasting division NURTS (National Unit Radio and TV Systems) to Austria’s ORS for an unspecified fee.
The sale follows a competitive international tender and still has to be approved by the relevant regulatory authorities.
NURTS operates a national microwave transmission network carrying TV, radio, voice and data transmissions.
It also manages a state-of-the-art satellite teleport and has been developing an experimental DTT multiplex in Sofia since 2006.
ORS is majority (60%) owned by the Austrian public broadcaster ORF and is responsible for the DVB-T infrastructure in Austria.
