HD channels should not be offered free of charge to DTT viewers in the Czech Republic, according to Zdenek Duspiva, the head of the body overseeing the country’s transition to digital broadcasting.
Speaking at the Teleinformatika conference in Prague and quoted in Digizone, he added that throughout the world, and especially in Western Europe, channels in the format are invariably paid-for.
The Czech public broadcaster CT began HD trials last year and plans to offer regular HD transmissions from 2009. Its HD offer will, at least initially, be delivered by cable, satellite and IPTV.
