Sling Media will launch it’s own online video portal this Monday, November 24, combining a new way to watch content from a Slingbox-connected TV as well as offer a selection of movies, TV programmes and other assorted video clips. Following the trend for online video, this will be a browser application.
On the new Sling.com website owners of a Slingbox will be able to see Live TV from their own Slingbox at home. This eliminates the use of the dedicated Slingplayer application and offers most of the functionality users of the box are familiar with.
In addition to that, registered users of the Sling.com site will also have access to a large library of video content. Sling Media said it has agreements with over 90 content providers including CBS, Sony Pictures, PBS, BBC America, video portals Joost and Hulu, and also video sites such as College Humor, 60Frames and Break.comand.
For the moment, the Live TV functionality of Sling.com will only work on Windows computers, but the company said it is working on a Mac version as well. Also, the new portal will be of little use to viewers outside the USA, as most of the content is restricted to US-based web viewing only.
