Less than one in five Lithuanians (19%) claim to have sufficient information on the transition to digital broadcasting, according to a survey carried out by TNS Gallup for the incumbent telco TEO LT.
Commenting on the results of the survey, Nerijus Ivanauskas, chief marketing officer and deputy general manager at TEO LT, said that many Lithuanian nevertheless plan to start receiving digital TV services in the short run – the country’s ASO date has been set as October 29, 2012 – and a monthly fee of LTL20 (€5.9) does not seem high for such services.
Interestingly, according to BMS Megapolis, only 3-4% of TV sets sold in Lithuania at the end of last year had integrated MPEG-4 receivers. However, this should rise to over 80% by the end of next year.
TEO LT is one of the leading players in Lithuania’s digital TV sector, operating both IPTV and DTT services using the ‘Gala’ brand name.
