African broadcaster HiTV has launched on the Sky Digital platform. It is the third channel from Nigeria to go live in the UK through support from Canis Media. The company sourced an EPG slot – the Sky EPG is effectively closed to new entrants – and handled the necessary regulatory aspects.
“The launch of HiTv on the Sky platform not only reflects the rapid growth that the African broadcasting industry is experiencing, it also shows how much potential there is for foreign broadcasters to attract significant audiences in the UK,” said Canis Media CEO Ed Hall.
As an entertainment channel HiTV has secured 204 on the Sky EPG and will broadcast a mix of entertainment, Nollywood, music and popular culture programmes, 24 hours a day.
The Nigerian version of the channel has over 167,000 subscribers building its popularity through the acquisition of local rights to the Premier League, La Liga and Italian Serie A.
