Telecom Italia Media has announced its intention to sell the terrestrial pay-per-view (PPV) business Cartapiu to Airplus TV. Closing of the contracts is scheduled for later this month. Cartapiu mainly sells live football on a PPV basis over the digital terrestrial network in Italy.
The agreement calls for the transfer of the Telecom Italia Media’s PPV business unit to a new company, the disposal of the new company to the Italian subsidiary of Airplus TV and the purchase of a minority investment in the capital stock of said Italian subsidiary of Airplus TV by Telecom Italia Media (9%).
At the same time, a long-term digital terrestrial bandwidth hosting agreements (14 Mbps) between Telecom Italia Media’s network operator and the Italian subsidiary of Airplus TV will be signed.
Airplus TV management are founders of the Finnish digital terrestrial pay TV operator Plus TV. Launched in March 2006, Plus TV is today Finland’s largest pay-TV operator.
The latest addition to the Airplus TV group is Dahlia Television SA in Spain.
