Russia’s NTV-Plus has signed a Letter of Intent with Neotion to develop its own security system for use with MPEG-4 technology.
The system combines MPEG-4 technology with “advanced proprietary secured descrambling mechanisms and crypto ciphers”. NTV currently uses France Telecom’s Viaccess to encrypt its satellite signals.
NTV’s plans are designed to support Russia’s national plan for digital switchover that is scheduled to complete before 2015. The new silicon specification is expected to be ready by May 1, 2009 with NTV prepared to recommend its new solution to other stakeholders involved in the switchover.
NTV-Plus expects to deploy up to 20 million such systems using its walled garden technology between 2009-11.
