Comedy Central’s Hungarian launch is laughing matter
MTV Networks International is today launching a Hungarian version of its popular Comedy Central. The channel goes live at 14.00 CET.
SmarDTV passes 2m CableCARDs
SmarDTV has said over two million of its CableCARDs have now been deployed, principally in the United States and Korea. The Kudelski Group company has also said it will open a new office in Korea.
France 24 chief steps aside
Alain de Pouzilhac, the president of France’s External Broadcasting Services (AEF), is to “temporarily” leave his position as head of France 24 in order to concentrate on the withdrawal of commercial broadcaster TF1 from the international news channel.
Workers protest against KDG lay-offs
Around 250 people demonstrated in front of the headquarters of Kabel Deutschland in Unterfohrung on Tuesday. Workers from Berlin, Hamburg and Hannover were protesting against the lay-off of 300 fellow staffers, according to German press agency DPA.
Eutelsat announces Hot Bird TV Award nominees
A total of 38 channels broadcasting in 13 different languages have been announced as nominees in Eutelsat’s annual Hot Bird TV Awards.
RTL Nederland to shed 50 jobs
RTL has announced it will reorganise its operations in The Netherlands, resulting in the redundancy of 50 employees. At the same time, RTL Broadcast Operations will transfer most facilities to Dutchview.
ACT seeks PSB aid review
Europe’s commercial channels have called for a review of the rules on the provision of state aid to public service broadcasters. It follows a meeting between members of the Association of Commercial Television in Europe and European Commission officials ahead of a review of the 2001 Broadcasting Communication.

The Polish DTH platform Cyfra+ has provided details of its plans and expectations for the rest of this year and 2009.
