The Russian public broadcaster VGTRK has moved to counter piracy of its programming.
According to Kommersant, it has filed a claim for copyright protection against Mail.ru and the social networking site vkontakte.
Mail.ru is the second largest ISP in Russia, and VGTRK says its video hosting service, which is used by almost 1.7 million people, includes content whose rights belong to the public broadcaster.
Both Mail.ru and vkontakte say they cannot keep track of who owns the rights to content uploaded on their sites.
