IFA 2008 – BERLIN. Motorola is to manufacture HD receivers for Deutsche Telekom’s T-Home Entertain IPTV platform. The VIP1616E is being marketed to Telekom customers as the Media Receiver 300 Type A. In addition to its HD capabilities the receiver also includes IPTV functionality.
BBC postpones Kingswood Warren move
The BBC has indefinitely postponed the transfer of staff from its facility at Kingswood Warren in Surrey. The announcement was made by Erik Huggers, director, BBC Future Media and Technology at a celebration to mark 60 years of BBC Research at Kingswood Warren.
Canalplay signs Gaumont VOD deal
Canalplay, the online video portal from the Canal+ Group, says it has reached agreement with the Gaumont Studios to offer their new and library titles on its VOD service. From today, a large number of titles is available for rental and for sale.

German Customs raid IFA exhibitors
IFA 2008 – BERLIN. Officials from the German Customs raided a number of stands at the IFA consumer electronics shows. Coming with full force of around 220 people, dozens of items including flat screens, MP3 players, set-top boxes, satellite receivers, DVD recorders and other equipment were seized.
Soft launch for Philips Net TV
IFA 20908 – BERLIN. Although Philips will launch its “Net TV” portal sometime next year, it is demoing the system at this year’s IFA. Originally, the service which streams web TV to the televsion set was set to launch this autumn.
Alcatel-Lucent shows improved DVB-SH
IFA 2008 – BERLIN. Alcatel-Lucent is demonstrating, for the first time in Europe, MPE-iFEC (Multi-Protocol Encapsulation – inter-burst Forward Error Correction), an error-correction coding that improves the quality of broadcast mobile TV reception
