The Dutch live football channel Eredivisie Live has said it has reached 200,000 subscribers three weeks after the start of the new season. The channel is jointly owned by the CV Eredivisie (which represents the Dutch clubs) and Endemol and is distributed on all platforms.
The channel was launched because the bids from premium broadcasters did not meet the expectations of the clubs. The channel has distribution contracts with all platforms, including all cable operators, DTT (Digitenne), DTH (Canal Digitaal) and IPTV (Tele2 and KPN). The retail price differs per platform, but averages about €10 a month.
According to Paul Römer, general manager of Endemol Nederland, the success of the channel is also due to the fast take-up of digital television in the past few months. “This gives us reason to be optimistic about the future of Eredivisie Live.”
