Portugal Telecom has said its Meo pay-TV platform has now passed the 200,000-subscriber mark. The figures represent an increase of 84,000 over the company’s second quarter total.
Meo has a dual strategy, targeting ADSL customers where MEO represents 30% of the installed base, and the DTH satellite platform that broadcasts from Hispasat. Portugal Telecom also has an interest in the country’s DTT platform, where it has been awarded the right to operate both pay and free-to-air services.
The Meo offer of 110 TV channels and 1,500 VOD titles has been supplemented by HD content launched ahead of the Olympic Games. It is also drawing heavily on football offering the TV channels supporting Barcelona, Chelsea, Inter, Manchester United and Real Madrid. On October 2 it will launch Benfica TV with coverage of the UEFA Cup match between Benfica and Napoli.
