Further details have emerged about Platforma HD, the new Russian DTH service.
Distributed by Eutelsat’s Eurobird at 9 degrees East, it can be received DTH with 60-90cm dishes and is also being offered by cable operators in cities in western parts of the country.
Furthermore, it is being provided to viewers free of charge for the first six months, after which a monthly fee of R300 (€8.3) will be payable.
As previously reported in Broadband TV News, Platforma HD offers four HD channels – Eurosport HD, National Geographic HD, HD Life and Kinopokaz HD – and can be received with Humax (HDCI-2000) and General Satellite (HD-9000) set-top boxes.
Unfortunately, details about Platforma HD itself, rather than the service it offers, remain scanty. There is as yet, for instance, no information available about its ownership.
