Eutelsat Communications is playing a key part in the demonstration of the Super Hi Vision technology developed by the Japanese public broadcaster NHK. The 7680 x 4320 pixel TV system is being delivered to the RAI via two transponders on Eutelsat’s Atlantic Bird 3 satellite.
The picture resolution of Super Hi-Vision is 16-times that of current HD with 60 progressive frames a second, giving a taste of how the TV experience can continue to develop even further for the future.
Already Eutelsat is a leader in the delivery of HD signals in Europe – an honour it shares with Luxembourg-based SES – with Eutelsat’s 50 commercial HD channels representing almost half of those available across the continent.
Eutelsat will also be showing its satellite-based broadband service two way, currently running on both Ku-band and Ka-band frequencies, in partnership with the US operator ViaSat.
Executives will also be on hand to talk about Solaris Mobile, the S-band mobile video, radio and broadband service being developed in partnership with SES.
