The move of Setanta Sports 1 from a premium channel to near basic status has taken another step forward. Already bundled with Virgin Media’s big basic package and the BT Vision IPTV service, Setanta Sports 1 is now being offered free to new subscribers to Top Up TV’s DTT pay package for a 12-month period.
Telefónica grows IPTV subs
Telefónica estimates its Imagenio IPTV service now has a domestic market share of 13%. MPEG-4 confirmed for Ireland DTT rollout
Irish communications minister Eamon Ryan has announced the end of the country’s DTT trial and confirmed the MPEG-4 compression system will be used when the rollout commences in autumn 2009.

Sirius strikes Lithuanian deal

CSA publishes DTT expansion plan for 2009
The French media authority CSA has published a list of 71 new DTT transmitters that will be taken into service before the summer of 2009. This is the first batch, and more additions to the network will be published at a later date.
Sky New Zealand chooses NDS for HD PVR
NDS has announced that Sky Television New Zealand has selected NDS’s PVR technology to power its new MySky HDi HD quad tuner DVR. NDS has also provided an enhanced EPG and managed the systems integration for the launch of Sky’s HD services.
