Liberty Global has posted revenues of $2.73 billion (€1.76 billion) in the second quarter, or 25% more than in the corresponding period last year.
At the same time, its net earnings amounted to $428 million, as opposed to a loss 12 months earlier.
The company found itself under particular pressure in some markets in Europe, where it lost 119,000 cable and MMDS subscribers in the quarter. Of these, 75% were in The Netherlands, Romania, Ireland and the Czech Republic.
However, The Netherlands (+29,400) and Czech Republic (+30,900) also posted strong growth in digital cable take-up. Liberty Global points out that it now offers a digital product in all its markets and aims to increase consolidated penetration above the current level of 30%, adding such products as DVR, HD and VOD.
