Winbox brings CinemaNow to Europe
IFA 2008 – BERLIN. Winbox Technologies has announced that it has partnered with CinemaNow, the digital on-demand platform for Hollywood movies and TV shows. The first set-top boxes that will include CinemaNow content will be aimed at the UK, with products for the rest of Europe appearing in retail later this year.

The Russian DTH platform NTV-Plus will launch a new channel offer in September.

New channels for Czech Rep/Slovakia
The Czech Radio and TV Council (RRTV) has awarded a 12-year licence to the Czechoslovak Film Company allowing it operate a new children’s channel named CS mini in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
Landmark for Dutch digital homes
The number of Dutch digital homes is fast approaching 4 million. At the end of June, some 3.63 million homes were digital, representing a 47.2% penetration out of a total of 7.68 million TV homes.
T-Home gives IPTV an extra push
IFA 2008 – BERLIN. German IPTV operator T-Home, part of the incumbent Deutsche Telekom, is to give its IPTV service T-Entertain a big push in order to reach the goal of 500,000 customers by the end of the year. At a press conference in Berlin, the company said it now has 10 million DSL customers.

Arcor launches Restart TV with ProSiebenSat.1
In a landmark deal with the ProSiebenSat.1 Group, German IPTV provider Arcor will launch a Restart TV service from September onwards. The company claims to be the first in the market to offer such a service.

Connected TV Forecasts NEW REPORT. The number of TV sets connected to the Internet will reach 551 million by 2016 for the 40 countries covered in this report from Digital TV Research, up from 124 million at end-2010. The report states that this translates to 20% of global TV sets by 2016, up from only 6% at end-2010. Published in November 2011, this 83-page PDF report is the most geographically comprehensive to ever be published.
