Many Dutch viewers who have a digital TV subscription still watch analogue broadcasts, according to a study carried out by GfK on behalf of SKO, the institute for TV audience research. When subscribing to digital TV, the most important reason is better quality pictures rather than more channels.
With over 40% of Dutch homes subscribing to one of the digital platforms, the research was carried out to see how the new services are actually being used. As it turns out, many people still hold on to their analogue cable connection, which they find easier to use.
In almost all cases, people continue to watch analogue on their second and third TV sets. They also watch analogue when they want to access traditional teletext services, which are not always available on digital.
