Currency movements dented an improved revenue performance within Thomson’s Access Products sector in the second quarter of 2008.
The company shipped 2.8 million satellite set-top boxes in Q2 compared to 2.5 million receivers in the same period in 2007. Cable box shipments also rose, climbing from 1.2 million in Q2 2007 to 1.5 million in Q2 2008.
In the quarter major contracts were announced with BT and Comcast and just this week Thomson signed a major new deal with Telenor for the supply of an end to end IPTV system.
Overall revenues within the Systems Division were €644 million, currency movements accounting for €48 million. When currency movements are excluded revenues still fell by 0.9% as falling prices eroded the benefits of increased sales.
