Over 50,000 households have already signed up to UPC Hungary’s digital cable TV service, which made its debut at the end of March.
Of these, at least a third have opted for boxes equipped with a DVR and capable of receiving HD channels.
UPC’s basic digital offer consists of 73 channels, and from next month, ahead of the Beijing Olympics, its HD package will include the public broadcaster’s M1 and M2 in the format.
UPC’s digital cable service is being rolled out in phases across Hungary and should be available nationally by 2010.
Separately, Liberty Global has merged its cable and telco operations in Hungary.
