New online sports channel from Simply Media

Simply Sports Media has announced the launch of BreakSweat TV, an online TV channel dedicated to extreme and endurance sports. The channel will be available for free and will cover a broad range of sports including mountain biking, adventure racing and rock climbing in short-form 3-5 minute programmes.

Canal Digitaal gets Dutch football

The Dutch DTH platform Canal Digitaal Satelliet has signed an agreement with the new Eredivisie Live channel to be available on satellite. The new channel will broadcast all Dutch premier league games live.

German cablers offer ‘free’ Bundesliga football

France Telecom reports strong IPTV growth

With the publication of its figures for the first six months of 2008, France Telecom has reported strong growth of its IPTV customer base. The company had a total of 1.54 million subscribers in Europe at June 30, 2008, or 76% more than 872,000 one year earlier.

Video business drives Eutelsat results

Eutelsat has reported sustained revenue growth, driven by strong dynamic of video applications and value-added services. The operator said it saw a 20% increase of TV channels broadcast by Eutelsat’s fleet and an increase of 20% of D-STAR broadband terminals in the full year to June 30, 2008.

SWell results for Welho

Subscriptions to pay-TV channels on the Finnish Welho cablenet increased significantly in the second quarter. Figures published for parent company SWelcom, part of the media giant SanomaWSOY, saw a year on year increase of 33,000 to 103,000 pay-TV subscriptions at June 30, 2008. The number of households connected has also risen from 312,000 to 321,000.

80% taking BT Vision subscriptions
