The Services Sound & Vision Corporation has awarded a new contract to Arqiva to deliver BFBS to British forces serving in the Falklands, Belize and on Royal Navy ships.
The new contract follows on from the recent expansion of BFBS in Europe and the Middle East from six to ten television channels. The services are being timeshifted for local broadcast.
Under a five-year deal Arqiva will implement the service using MPEG-4 coding and statistical multiplexing. Harmonic equipment has been used for the encoding and multiplexing of the system that is being installed by Simac Broadcast of The Netherlands.
For its part Arqiva’s Chalfont Grove facility, where BFBS is based, will continue to provide studio facilities, ingest, editing, quality control, encoding and playout support services.
