The Polish public broadcaster TVP’s board has officially given the go-ahead to the launch of a DTH platform.
Local reports confirm that it will be operated in conjunction with SES Astra and put the possible launch date as autumn 2009.
Poland is already served by three DTH platforms (Cyfrowy Polsat, Cyfra+ and n, with a combined total of around 3.5 million subscribers), with a fourth operated by the France Telecom-backed incumbent telco TPSA due to launch in Q3 this year. All four use the rival Eutelsat Hot Bird platform at 13 degrees East from where TVP’s main channels are already available.
