The Dutch public broadcaster NOS has launched a mobile TV application named NOS Mobiel through which viewers can access news, sports, weather, traffic information and even teletext. Both on-demand and live stream programming is available.
The NOS Mobiel player can be downloaded for free and comes in many different versions, even one for the iPhone, a phone that is as yet not officially available in The Netherlands. Using the UMTS networks, any mobile phone user can access the service at no extra charge. Only regular connection (data) fees are applicable.
The application offers direct access to various on-demand programming, as well as the live streams of news channel NOS Journaal 24 and Politiek 24. As a special feature, all major sporting events can be accessed live. During the Olympic Games, NOS will offer up to six live feeds simultaneously.
