Turner Broadcasting System has confirmed the launch of a German version of the popular TNT channel.
TNT Serie will feature a mix of comedy, series, and continuing drama, many of which will receive their German TV premiere. Titles include ER, Everybody Loves Raymond, Monk, Smallville and Gilmore Girls. Transmission will be in 16:9 with both German and English soundtracks. The channel will compete against the recently launched Fox Channel, which debut on May 19.
Cable, IPTV and satellite distribution is promised, the latter most likely through Premiere Star, in which Turner holds an 8.5% stake.
The company said in April that the launch of TNT was one of their key projects for 2008. TNT Serie will be Turner’s fourth channel in the German market. In June 2006 retro cartoon channel Boomerang was launched followed by Cartoon Network and Turner Classic Movies in December 2006.
