Californian Harmonic Inc. is promising a wide variety of HD, IP and HFC solutions to enable operators deliver a more personalized viewing experience.

1080p HD compression will be shown as part of a comprehensive digital headend. The DiviCom Electra and Ion MPEG-4 AVC H.264 and MPEG-2 encoders are to provide high quality HD and SD video compressed at various bit-rates and formats including 1080p 24 frames per second. The extension to 1080P at 50 and 60 frames per second, promised to audiences nine months ago at IBC, apparently is not yet on the horizon.

VOD, and delivering more bandwidth to the home for video and higher-speed data through its IP cable and modular cable modem termination system, is another focus point for Harmonic at ANGA.

The varied list of demonstrations and includes efficient fibre-deep wave division multiplexing (WDM) transmission and node solutions that optimize downstream and upstream video, voice and data content delivery to and from the home; VOD asset preparation and delivery; ad insertion and the company’s NSG 9000 universal edgeQAM, supporting a unique and broad range of applications including broadcast, direct-to-Edge cable IPTV, DOCSIS 3.0, edge encryption,
M-CMTS and switched digital video (SDV), as well as VOD.

Finally, the company offers interactive, high-quality video-rich navigation technologies for accessing on-demand and user generated content, leveraging the operator’s existing infrastructure and legacy set-top boxes.
