Mediapro has signaled its intention to launch a pay-per-view football channel that would compete with the DTH offer from its rival Sogecable’s Digital+. The Mediapro channel would be distributed over cable or DTT.
Mediapro plans to offer 16 of the most significant weekend matches from the Spanish first division at a price between €15 and €17. The proposed pricing structure would undercut the Digital+ option, which charges subscribers some €12 per match.
The Catalan-based rights holder has been involved in a long-running dispute with Sogecable’s Audiovisual Sport over the rights to top flight Spanish football.
