The German Cartel Office (Bundeskartellamt) has approved Kabel Deutschland KDG’s acquisition of parts of Orion Cable. In the deal, KDG will acquire 1.1 million Orion Level 4 subscribers, of which 1 million will now for the first time have access to full triple play services. The deal will be closed at the end of April and includes homes in Bavaria, Bremen, Hamburg, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatina, Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein.
At the same time the deal will free Orion Cable up to gain greater control of PrimaCom, an operator with a large number of Level 4 subscribers, many of which are in the eastern part of the country. The KDG deal, which was first announced late last year, is worth €585 million.
