Local reports indicate that UPC may launch its long-awaited digital cable service in Poland before the end of this month. It will initially only be available in Warsaw, and not offer VOD until a later date. UPC is also expected to use both SD and HD decoders from Philips and Thomson, thereby allowing for the reception of HD channels. By launching this month, UPC will apparently be stealing a march on Aster, which is understood to be preparing to introduce a number of HD channels in Warsaw in May.
