Telekom Slovenije goes wireless

The incumbent Slovenian telco Telekom Slovenije has launched a commercial WiMAX service in Ljubljana.

Telekom Slovenije was one of two companies awarded a WiMAX licence by the Post and Electronic Communications Agency (APEK) in October 2006, paying just over €417,000 for the concession.

It intends to invest around €10 million on a network that will act as an alternative to cable TV systems and xDSLnetworks, offering customers broadband internet access and VoIP.
