Arqiva is providing Setanta with a dedicated 36MHz transponder that will provide the sports broadcaster with capacity for up to eight channels. The complete package includes the delivery of content from a number of fibre sources and uplinking to the 28 degrees East position used for the UK market. In addition to broadcast channels the capacity will also support a range of interactive services including Sky Bet and Setanta iSub.
In addition to its own premium branded channels, Setanta also operates Racing World, Racing UK, Setanta Commercial, NASN, Setanta Island, Liverpool TV and Arsenal TV which was launched on 14 January 2008. It has plans for an HD channel, though in its submission to the Ofcom pay-TV inquiry, argues that it has so far been prevented from doing so.
