IPTV WORLD FORUM – LONDON: Harmonic has said it is to upgrade IPTV service Tiscali UK to its latest generation DiviCom Electra 5400 SD MPEG-4 AVC (H.264) multi-channel encoders. The new technology will enable Tiscali to lower the bitrates on its video services.
Tiscali’s predecessor Video Networks Limited launched the world’s first all MPEG-4 broadcast video service in 2005 using Harmonic’s MV 100 encoders.
“Telco IPTV has been an important area of growth for Harmonic,” said Glen Sakata, vice president of EMEA sales for Harmonic Inc. “We are focused on continuing to enhance the capabilities of telco operators such as Tiscali to deliver even more powerful personalised user experiences with advanced services such as on-demand, HD and targeted advertisement insertion.”
