DTG SUMMIT 2008 – LONDON. National HD channels must start to add value after digital switchover for DTT to remain a visible platform after digital switchover, according to Enders Analysis’ Toby Syfret.
Speaking at the DTG Summit in London, Syfret said HD would become the natural format for HD by 2017, but this was more of a wish than a certainty. “The Ofcom picnic decision and the outcome of the pay TV decision are to be crucial to the future of DTT,” he said. “It is not entirely clear to us or to people like Setanta why the PSBs should be given priority and as it currently stands we cant see any clear evolutionary pathway for increasing growth of HD.”
Syfret said the UK pay-TV market was now close to maturity, but he expected Sky to maintain its existing position after switchover.
