The board of directors at Canal+ SA have approved the pay-TV giant’s end of year accounts. The Paris-based operation closed 2007 with 5.3 million subscribers in France, its overseas territories and Africa, representing a net increase of 80,000.
The Canal+ Le Bouquet package of movie and sports channels added 715,000 new home and institutional subscriptions, representing the best performance for 20 years.
At home the domestic churn rate increased to 12.8% from 12% in 2006. Tellingly, no equivalent figures were published for Canal’s overseas services.
Revenues increases by €5 million year on year producing a consolidated net income of €47 million.
Canal’s parent Vivendi continues to be linked with a purchase of the German pay-TV platform Premiere, though it is clear News Corp is in the box seats.
